What a Difference
a Day Makes!

Going into the 2004 election, the referendum to provide dedicated funding to LexTran was a "no win" issue. The polls said no, the community had said "no" to two similar referenda years before, and individuals rolled their eyes at the thought of an additional property tax.

But it had to be done. With Federal funds dwindling, grant moneys running out, and local funding becoming increasingly unstable, the only way to keep a viable bus system was to step forward, take a stand, and let the voters decide. AD-SUCCESS was honored to assist in educational efforts to this end.

There's always a lot of communication about any issue on a ballot, but this issue, since it involved a monetary "buy-in" from the community at large, required effective educational efforts. Efforts that, albeit on a shoestring budget, had to show voters how the bus system affects the community today and for the future.

AD-SUCCESS produced advertising showing a "disappearing act" in television and print. It showed how all our lives would be affected by a dwindling transit system. Viewers saw disappearing medical workers, mechanics, college students, waitresses, retail workers, the elderly, and disabled individuals.

We all depend on mass transit became the mantra of the campaign, which was endorsed by the local Chamber of Commerce, the President of the University of Kentucky, and a strong grassroots effort by riders and the community.

There's a Lot Riding on LexTran!

Educating the community did not begin this week, this month, or this year. It has been an on-going effort with TV spots produced by AD-SUCCESS that started years ago. These past television spots focused in on key transit issues by putting a "face" on transit in real-life scenarios. In fact, all of the people in the spots were transit riders, not actors. Their stories were all true, just as is the value of mass transit.
